Most of the cost and look comes down to these five calls.
1 · Style
Frameless, semi-frameless or framed
Frameless is the cleanest, longest-lasting look. Semi-frameless gives you a modern feel at a lower price. Fully framed is rarely worth it on a remodel.
Frameless: ⅜″ or ½″ glass, premium hinges
Semi-frameless: ¼″–⅜″ glass, slim channel
Framed: dated look, traps water along the bottom
2 · Glass
Thickness, coatings and tint
Tempered safety glass is standard. Thickness is set by the style; coatings and tints are optional upgrades.
Clear glass shows tile and stone best
Low-iron glass removes the green edge
ShowerGuard / EnduroShield repels water spots
Rain, fluted or frosted for privacy
3 · Hardware
Hinges, handles and finish
Matte black, brushed nickel, polished chrome or brushed gold — match your faucet, not your towel bar.
Pivot hinges on heavy frameless panels
Magnetic seals along the door edge
Handle paired or contrasted with the hinge
4 · Swing
Hinged, sliding or fixed panel
Driven by the opening width and what's outside the door.
Hinged: openings under ~36″
Sliding: wide openings, tight rooms
Fixed panel + hinged door: classic walk-in setup
5 · Install
Measure, fabricate, install
From measure to install, a typical shower door takes 2–3 weeks because the glass is fabricated to your opening.
In-home measure after tile is done
Tempered glass cut and hole-drilled in shop
Install + seal in 2–4 hours
